Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Mackenzie Avey
Dr. Mackenzie Avey joined Beattie Pet Hospital Burlington in 2023, bringing her lifelong passion for animals and veterinary care to the team.
Growing up, she was always eager to get involved in the field, volunteering with her local humane society and at various veterinary clinics. Dr. Avey graduated from the University of Guelph in 2019 before earning her veterinary degree from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2023. She had the opportunity to start at Beattie Pet Hospital as a vet student in 2021 and returned in 2023 because of the positive, team-oriented environment she enjoyed during her time here.
Dr. Avey’s approach to veterinary medicine is deeply rooted in helping both animals and their owners feel happier and more comfortable with their care. She strives to be a part of her patients' lives and provides individualized care that takes into account each pet’s unique needs and stage in life. Her special interests within the field include internal medicine, palliative care, animal behavior, and surgery. She values collaboration and believes that working together as a team with both clients and colleagues is the best way to provide optimal care.
The most rewarding part of Dr. Avey’s job is making a meaningful difference in the lives of her patients and clients, whether through the joyous moments or the more difficult ones. Outside of work, Dr. Avey enjoys spending time with her two kitties, Willow, a calico DLH, and Roo, an orange tabby DSH, often trying to teach them new tricks. She also stays active, loves to read, and enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends.
